The Lumière factory Site
|
![]() In 1882, Antoine Lumière bought in the Lyon suburb of Monplaisir a large area of land, on which he built the largest photographic product production facility in Europe. Only the " Hangar " transit shed remains of the factory but this was the setting for the very first motion picture entitled " La Sortie des Usines Lumière " (Leaving the Factory). The other buildings were razed to the ground in 1975 after the company was transferred to the outskirts of modern Lyon. The residence built for Auguste and Louis in 1896 made way for a modern building and service station in 1970.
