The Raymond Chirat Library
A unique place for all cinema enthusiasts

Supported by the French National Book Center.

The Raymond Chirat Library at the Institut Lumière is intended for both the cinematographic researcher and the inquisitive layman.

Arranged on two floors within what was Antoine Lumière’s painting studio in the lofty heights of the Château Lumière mansion, the documentation center houses the Institut Lumière’s " non film " archives.

These pleasant surroundings, which have been fully reconfigured specifically to suit modern technologies, now place at the public’s disposal 22 conventional reading positions, 2 video viewing positions and 4 computer inquiry terminals.

The Raymond Chirat Library, networked with other specialized libraries such as Bifi and the Cinémathèque de Toulouse, offers its users free access to combined collections of books, periodicals, scripts and technical publications dealing with every aspect of the cinema..

Information retrieval can really be perfected using the library’s computerized document base, numerous CD Roms or through Internet. Moreover, a team of capable assistants is at the service of those consulting the library for any advice they might require.
